The airport is used for flying education and flying clubs and roughly 80% of all flights from Malmi are training flights, almost all pilots in Finland have trained at the airport and it acts as a passenger flight back up for Helsinki’s Vantaa airport. Helsinki is very interesting geographically as just across the bay are a number of small islands that are also part of the capital city. The Helsinki Senate Square, where many of the top tourist events are held, was designed by Carl Ludvig Eagel and consists of the Palace of the Council of State, the University building and the Helsinki cathedral. There is also a statue dedicated to Emperor Alexander-II which is a symbol of Finland's past relationship with imperial Russia.
