More destinations added to Ryanair's base in Edinburgh

Ireland’s biggest budget airline, Ryanair, recently announced plans for a new route between Bournemouth and Edinburgh.

The new flights will add to the airline’s 12 services already operating from Bournemouth. The new flights to Edinburgh will take off twice daily starting in September this year.

The flights to Edinburgh are just one of five new routes launched by Ryanair over the past month and part of a £70 million expansion of Ryanair’s operations. With the new flights, Edinburgh has become Ryanair’s 27th base in Europe.

Ryanair also offers flights from Edinburgh to Dublin and Shannon. In April, new routes will begin from the Scottish capital to Marseille, Pisa, Frankfurt, Alicante and Bremen. In June, the city will offer twice weekly flights to Dusseldorf.

Sean Coyle, Ryanair's director of scheduled revenue, said: "Edinburgh Airport has competed successfully against airports across Europe for Ryanair's 27th base. Our 19 routes will deliver significant economic benefits for Edinburgh by capitalising on Scotland's huge tourism potential and making it cheaper and easier than ever before to get here."

In addition to low cost flights, Ryanair also offers car hire across the UK and Europe through its partnership with Hertz. This month, Hertz is offering car hire from €16 a day in its top nine destinations, including the UK.
