Enterprise Rent-A-Car strengthens its alliance with Europcar, forming the world’s largest rental car network.

Europcar is the top car hire company in Europe, and the extended partnership will involve the North American rental brands Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental as well.

Alamo and National were acquired by Enterprise in 2007, and since that time Enterprise and Europcar have worked to develop a more formal expansion of their partnership. The enhanced network now offers its customers a fleet of more than 1.2 million vehicles at 13,000 or more rental locations in 162 countries around the globe.

The benefit to customers is extended brand coverage – from one operator’s area to that of the next one – when traveling around the world. In addition, the terms of the partnership agreement among these rental car companies permit the consolidation of global corporate accounts, offering companies a world-wide network of rental vehicles – and also coordination among loyalty programs.

Eurazeo, a private equity firm headquartered in France, is the owner of Europcar. The rental car company is the European leader in rentals of cars and also light utility vehicles.

St. Louis, Missouri-based Enterprise Rent-A-Car is also privately held, and reported $9.5 billion in revenue for 2007. It is North America’s largest car rental company.
