You’ll want to book car hire well ahead of family holidays to beat burgeoning demand.

Tourism industry insiders are again warning holidaymakers to avoid leaving their car hire bookings until it’s too late. Many a family holiday has been spoiled by weak or non-existent availability in the run up to the big holiday season.

Despite past warnings, the car hire industry still sees some customers disappointed by having to pay much more than they wanted. In extreme cases, car hire agencies have had no cars available at all.

Holday Autos MD Stuart Nassos advises customers to book their car hire as soon as they are in a position to confirm their holiday. This will leave customers, especially those who need to cram in a family and all associated holiday paraphernalia, with more options to find a booking that meets both their budget and their specification.

Ireland’s tourist trade industry body in February said there was a big shortfall in the car rental supply for 2010. In fact, supplies are about 50% down on the level ideally needed to avoid a sudden upsurge in demand leading to a painful increase in rental rates.

So remember to book your holiday car hire as early as possible or you could find yourself with anything but a happy holiday.
