Hertz car rental customers in Europe will soon enjoy a new way to avoid getting lost.

Both local customers and travellers from around the world are due to enjoy the benefits of technology as Hertz rolls out a new satellite-navigation system implemented through a partnership with TomTom.

Hertz, a global provider of vehicle hire services, and TomTom, the number one provider of in-car navigation and location products, have entered a partnership that will bring the latest version of Hertz’s NeverLost satellite-navigation to the company’s rental vehicles. The NeverLost 4 system is based on Via 120 EU from TomTom.

The TomTom product brings a unique dynamic routing service to the satnav provided by Hertz. Not only do customers enjoy rapid provision of the most efficient route to their destinations but the route is planned around the latest traffic conditions.

Hertz customers can arrange to enjoy the benefits of NeverLost 4 by booking over the phone or using the company’s online reservation system on the web. TomTom’s managing director, Corinne Vigreux, explained that TomTom’s data network in Europe collects traffic information in real time from a network of more than 80 million traffic monitors.

The deal means that TomTom’s traffic data will be fed to the NeverLost platform via TomTom’s LIVE services, giving drivers using Hertz’s system the powerful option to re-route their journeys around problems in traffic, boosting the efficiency and speed of travel.

The new Hertz NeverLost navigation devices will be offered to customers of Hertz at more than 700 major cities and airports throughout 17 European countries. More than 3,500 of the units will be made available in the coming two years.
