Car rental giant Hertz has announced its new global strategy for sustainability.

The New Jersey-based firm said in a press release issued this week that it will soon implement its new “Living Journey” program, in which it outlines three areas where it will focus its efforts in order to provide environmentally friendly business practices.

The firm said it will address the following areas through the Living Journey scheme: Smart Mobility, through continuing to offer clean and fuel-efficient product options to consumers; Environment, through proper resource management, efficiency improvements and the production of renewable energy; and Community, through giving back to local residents via volunteering initiative and philanthropic efforts.

Hertz chairman and chief executive Mark P. Frissora said in a statement that sustainability had long been an important part of the company’s culture, adding that in addition to fiscal responsibilities the firm also places importance on social impact and environmental performance.

Frissora said that Living Journey was a continuation of previously successful environmental initiatives implemented last year, such as new Electric Vehicle product offerings and solar power generation systems launched at numerous corporate offices and rental facilities.

Hertz also boasted in the statement that it had recently received a Sustainable Practice recognition by the Global Business Travel Association for its Hertz On Demand scheme.
