Car hire firm Hertz has introduced Compressed Natural Gas vehicles into its fleet in the United States.

The New Jersey-based firm said in a press release issued on Wednesday that a pair of set of CNG GMC Yukons and a set of eight CNG Honda Civics would become available for rent at Will Rodgers airport in Oklahoma City beginning in May.

Officials said that the move was part of the firm’s commitment to providing customers with a wide range of rental options, including fuel-efficient and low-carbon models. All of the cars, which are part of Hertz’ Green Traveller Collection of vehicles, will be fitted with NeverLost GPS navigation systems to assist renters with finding CNG fuel stations, the statement said.

Mark P. Frissora, chairman and chief executive of Hertz, said that the company would continue to offer new alternative fuel and low-carbon rental options as technology continues to expand.

All of the vehicles will go on display in Oklahoma City on 11 April at the NBA matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Oklahoma City Thunder during the league’s week dedicated to environmental awareness.

The launch of the clean-burning CNG cars comes as part of the rental firm’s recently launched Living Journey program, which was unveiled earlier this year.
