Australian carrier Qantas has announced a major boost to its Domestic routes amid restructuring efforts.

Australian carrier Qantas has announced a major boost to its Domestic routes amid restructuring efforts.

The company said on Thursday that it would be beefing up its most popular routes by some 90,000 seats; the move will affect both Qantas and Jetstar flights beginning 9 July, carrier officials said.

Reports said that the majority of seats would be added to the competitive ‘golden triangle’ area of the country’s east coast, which links Sydney with Melbourne and Brisbane. The move will bring about 11 new weekly return flights between Sydney and Melbourne, as well as 11 additional flights between Sydney and Brisbane starting in August.

Sydney-based Jetstar routes receiving a boost include Ballina-Byron, Adelaide and Gold Coast airport in Coolangatta. Additional revamped services include Adelaide to Gold Coast and New Castle to Gold Coast.

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said to reporters that the move comes in the effort of offering the best range of services in key areas of the domestic market and added that it would enable the firm to offer lower prices on several Jetstar routes.

The news comes just 48 hours after Qantas announced a major step in restructuring efforts following substantial profit losses and labour disputes in which carrier officials said that the firm would be separating its domestic and international operations.
