An industry coalition has asked Britons to email ministers in regards to the UK’s Air Passenger Duty taxes.

An industry coalition has asked Britons to email ministers in regards to the UK’s Air Passenger Duty taxes.

Reports said on Monday that A Fair Tax on Flying, which represents some 30 major airlines and travel operators, have launched a campaign in the effort of getting 100,000 British voters to voice their opposition to the UK's departure tax rates, which are the highest of such levies worldwide.

The group’s new website allows users to create an email to send to their local MP by simply inputting their name, email address and postcode. The message is sent automatically and states that the amount of tax that travellers must pay when flying from British airports is “unacceptable”.

The email claims that only five countries in Europe impose such a tax passengers departing for overseas destinations and that the rate charged in Britain is double that of Germany, the next expensive European country to fly from. It also adds that several regional countries including Belgium and Holland have recently scrapped APD taxes due to the "economic hardships" it creates for local residents.

The UK’s APD rates have risen sharply in recent years, the most recent rise pushed up rates by some 8 per cent and require a family of four to pay as much £368 in taxes alone to depart from the UK, depending on the distance travelled.
