Monarch Airlines has commenced new base operations from Leeds Bradford airport.

The carrier launched 12 new routes last week, marking the start of flights from its sixth hub in the United Kingdom. The move will create some 200 jobs in Yorkshire, according to Monarch officials.

Among new Monarch routes available for Leeds Bradford passengers, travellers can now take advantage of thrice-weekly service to Faro and Munich, twice-weekly flights to Roman and Antalya, as well as four weekly return flights to Majorca.

James Broughton said on behalf of Leeds Bradford airport that the news was “tremendous” the Leeds City region. He went on to say, “We are pleased to welcome a Monarch base at Leeds Bradford Airport for Summer 2013. Monarch’s extensive route network will deliver increased destination choice for leisure travellers flying to and from Yorkshire. This investment provides significant benefits to the local economy alongside bringing new jobs to the region”.

Likewise, James Massey, head of marketing for Monarch, said in a press release, “Monarch’s operations continue to grow from strength to strength and we have expanded our operations based on demand; offering passengers choice, value and great customer service. The launch of Leeds Bradford as a base for the airline has the potential to create around 200 jobs within the local area and will provide a gateway for inbound tourism with an estimated 20,000 EU passengers travelling from Europe to West Yorkshire”.
