Car hire firm Europcar has offered rental services to athletes and spectators of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

This week saw the rental firm begin providing automatic vehicles with specialised Lynx Hand Controls to help address the challenge of transporting athletes and from events. Officials said the cars are available to any athletes and coaches with good hand dexterity.

Ken McCall, managing director for Europcar UK Group, said that many of the participants in the Paralympics prefer individual transport during the Games and that the Lynx Hand Control system makes the feat possible for those with upper body control.

McCall went on to say that the effort was part of the company’s commitment to helping all customers and athletes remain mobile throughout London 2012 and that Lynx Hand Controls provides a cost-effective and viable alternative to London's public transport network.

Those looking to book Lynx Hand Controls vehicles can do so by contacting Europcar’s UK call centre at least 48 hours before pick-up time for the rental period. The firm said that Lynx Hand Controls are provided for free to leisure rental customers but can only used with automatic transmission vehicles.
