Sixt has acquired privately owned Dublin-based car hire firm County Car Rentals.

Officials said on Thursday that the move will create 23 jobs for the local economy, including 11 new positions at the head office of Sixt in Dublin. Sixt said in press release that all County Car Rentals locations have been rebranded as Sixt rental outlets and that they now offer top-of-the-line luxury brand vehicles such as BMW and Audi.

County Car Rentals was launched in the Republic of Ireland 1952 and until now has been owned by the Loughran family.

Bernard Loughran, Sixt’s managing director for the company’s Irish operations, said in a statement that the deal would attract new corporate clients from continental Europe, notably Austria and Germany. He went on to say that it would also provide Dublin with the opportunity to attract new tourism.

Meanwhile, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said to reporters at an official launch ceremony that County Car Rentals had gone from “strength to strength” through the years and that it highlighted the best in Irish family-run businesses.
