US-based car rental firm Thrifty has launched a new application for Windows Phone users.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the software allows Microsoft Windows Phone customers to conveniently book, cancel or modify reservations at Thrifty locations around the world. The application utilises a simplified, three-step reservation process and also provides a number of useful extras.

The software is the result of a collaborative effort between Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Microsoft and software developer Migration.mobi.

Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group’s president, chairman and chief executive Scott Thompson said in a statement that the “state-of-the-art” program compliments the brand’s existing smartphone apps and caters to car hire customers' increasing need for mobile solutions.

In addition to bookings, the software also allows customers to reserve add-ons such as child car seats and GPS navigation devices. It also features handy tools to help users find Thrifty locations and to receive notifications for Thrifty specials and promotional offers.

Consumers can download the Thrifty application from the Windows Phone Store free of charge. Thrifty also offers applications on the Android platform as well as a special app for Apple’s iPhone.
