Enterprise Rent-a-Car has reported a significant increase in holiday bookings at its US neighbourhood locations.

Officials from the St Louis-based firm said in a press release issued last week that the company has seen a year-on-year rise of 25 per cent for bookings over the holidays. The data comes via more than 5,500 non-airport branches, according to the release.

Enterprise senior vice president Steve Short said in a statement that the rise suggests that customers are once again looking to rental cars as a great alternative to other means of holiday travel. He noted that the company continues to see year-on-year increases in bookings over the Christmas period.

Mr Short went on to add that the average age of privately owned cars is 11 years and that many consumers prefer to go with more reliable vehicles for their travel plans. He said that Enterprise can cater to such needs, whether customers are looking for something with more space or simply a place for better family bonding during the holidays.
