Continued unstable weather in England and Wales has prompted flood warnings in numerous areas across the region.

Officials from the Environment Agency said on Wednesday that more than 100 flood warning and some 210 flood alerts would remain in effect through much of Thursday as heavy rains remain in the forecast. Meanwhile, drivers age being urged to use extreme caution in Scotland amid icy conditions.

Reports said that many Berkshire residents narrowly retained power on Wednesday morning, after emergency crews were able to block floodwaters from reaching an electrical station.

Likewise, rock fall warnings have been put in place by the British Geological Survey after Wednesday saw the closure of the A890 in the West Highlands due to a major landslide. Affected drivers were detoured by nearly 150 miles.

Officials from the Met Office said that weather conditions would see some improvement at the weekend, although high winds will prevail whilst heavy rains are expected in the southern portion of England.

Officials statistics from the Met Office show that 2012 has been one of the wettest years ever seen in Britain in more than 100 years of data.
