Car rental giant Hertz has upgraded its range of services available for smartphone users.

Car rental giant Hertz has upgraded its range of services available for smartphone users.

Officials from firm said this week that Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members with reservations in the United States can now select an upgrade prior to arriving at the rental counter.

Under the new scheme, members will be sent a text with a link providing them with a set of vehicle options which include a number of vehicle upgrade choices, changing to a different car with no added cost as well as the ‘deal of the day’. Additionally, those receiving ‘carfirmation’ messages will be able to secure add-ons such as Hertz NeverLost navigational devices.

Hertz bosses said move follows a successful trial of the program over the last month at airports in California and Washington.

The company’s chairman and chief executive, Mark P. Frissora, said in a statement that the programme is designed to cater to consumers’ desire for more efficient service through technological means.

The programme is now operational at some 50 top airport locations in the United States, according to a press release issued last week.
