Car rental giant Hertz has opened its newest branch at Sharjah International Airport.

Car rental giant Hertz has opened its newest branch at Sharjah International Airport.

Officials from the New Jersey-based firm said in a press release issued last week that the move comes as part of the company’s efforts to capitalise on growing passenger traffic at the UAE gateway. The launch marks the 18th Hertz outlet in the United Arab Emirates, officials said.

According to the release, Sharjah International Airport saw the total number of passengers using the airport climb from 6.6 million in 2011 to 7.5 million in 2012, marking a year-on-year increase of 13.6 per cent.

Hertz’s managing director for the UAE, Nigel Johnson, said in a statement that the opening of the Sharjah International Airport branch marks a “significant” milestone in the firm’s UAE expansion effort. He added that the outlet is the 4th Hertz airport location in the country.

Mr Johnson went on to say that Hertz UAE is the nation’s fastest-growing car hire company, thanks to the company’s recent investments in infrastructure, personnel and rental fleet.
