Car rental firm Enterprise has expanded its presence in Europe a new franchise deal in Italy.

Car rental firm Enterprise has expanded its presence in Europe via a new franchise deal in Italy.

Officials from the US-based firm said on Wednesday that the company has agreed to franchise Italian car hire company Locauto Rent, which currently operates 28 rental locations around the country and a fleet of more than 5,000 vehicles.

The move marks the Enterprise's initial entry into Italy and the seventh country in Europe in which it has operations. Other Enterprise businesses have already been established in Portugal, France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany among others.

Enterprise's vice president for global franchising, Peter Smith, said in a statement that the move comes in response to a "strong opportunity" for expansion in Europe as rental demand continues to grow in the region. He went on to say that the company would continue to seek new partners throughout the continent.

The news comes after the December announcement that Enterprise had reached a franchise agreement with Portugal's, Guerin Car Rental Solutions. The company's largest franchise deal in Europe is with French firm Citer SA, which operates a 30,000-unit vehicle fleet in Spain and France.
