Car rental provider Europcar is to be a major sponsor for Triathlon Ireland.

Reports said on Monday that the car hire firm has reached a two-year deal with the Triathlon Ireland's management. The agreement will make the firm the organisation’s largest sponsor and will see the company provide a pair of Skoda Yeti vehicles to be used by elite Irish athletes and for key Triathlon Ireland staff.

Triathlon Ireland chief executive Chris Kitchen said in a statement that the deal was a “fantastic” achievement for his organisation. He added that the group is looking to provide second-to-none service for its members, athletes, clubs, organisers, officials, coaches and sponsors and that the Europcar deal was a major step in achieving that goal.

Likewise, Colm Menton, chief executive of Europcar Ireland, noted that Triathlon Ireland has grown tremendously in recent years, which he said mirrors the performance of Europcar’s presence in Ireland. He went on to say that his company has a number of employees that are regular competitors in triathlon events throughout Ireland.

The deal will also see Europcar aid with the launch of the forthcoming Europcar Mini Series, which will be comprised of tri events in a number of regions including County Tipperary and Carrick-on-Suir.
