ZipCar vehicles are already showing up at major US airports less than a week after the firm was bought by Avis Budget Group.

The news comes just five days after the close of the $500 million (£330 million) deal; and news reports said on Wednesday that ZipCars have been spotted at Avis locations at Newark’s Liberty International airport in addition to LaGuardia and JFK airports in New York.

Mark Norman, president of ZipCar, told the media that by having ZipCars available at airport outlets it would provide additional options for rental customers that may not need a full day’s rental and need to get to a location that is difficult to reach via public transport. He added that the airport launch was one of the many enhancements made possible via the Avis Budget deal that will help to enhance value for ZipCar customers.

Avis Budget had officially announced the ZipCar takeover in January as the company continued to make headlines by sustaining massive growth. However, the car-sharing scheme has yet to make a profit and has lost around $55 million (£36 million) annually since its launch in 2007
