Tourist Info

Majorca is one of the top hot spots for tourism in Spain, the island is located on the large coastal bay of Palma with most of the tourist attractions found on the east side of the city.

Malaga holds a number of festivals throughout the year and the increasing popularity with tourists has meant that the shopping opportunities have increased since the first tourists visited back in the 1960's. Outdoor markets selling fresh produce have sprung up and become very popular along with the development of large shopping malls with restaurants and cinemas which are now commonplace.

There are many interesting sites to visit whilst in Majorca and one of the most popular is The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma whose construction was originally started in the middle of the 13th century and wasn’t finished until the 17th century and then restored in 1901. Behind the cathedral is The Old City which still retains some of its Arab past with its interesting maze of streets. The interesting part about this area of the city is that there are private houses which are open to the public as little museums or galleries. Another great tourist attraction around Palma is the circular Castell de Bellver or Bellver Castle. It is a vast castle built originally in the Gothic style on a hill just outside Palma. It was built during the 14th century and was used as a military prison and is now the setting for the Museum of History in Palma.

If you enjoy great people watching the location to be is Passeig des Born. It is the place to be if you want to take a stroll along the tree lined promenade that locals have walked for more than a hundred years to take in the air. The tree lined promenade has the more recent additions of shops and music venues as well as the modern art gallery in a large converted house the Ca'n Solleric.
