Car hire firm Europcar has joined forces with Tesco.

Europcar officials said this week that the firm had officially become a member of the Tesco Clubcard Rewards program, enabling some 17 million consumer members to earn points via car rentals.

The Tesco Clubcard Rewards scheme allows cardholders to earn points on a variety of everyday spending needs including travelling and shopping. Members can exchange points for Clubcard Rewards tokens, which offer exclusive deals of up to quadruple values through more than 600 partners, the company said.

Tesco’s Clubcard Rewards director Ian Simkins said in a statement that his organisation's partnership with Europcar would allow program cardholders to book valuable rentals for everything from moving house and city breaks to holidays and even airport transportation.

Similarly, Europcar Group UK’s managing director Ken McCall said that his company was “delighted” to have joined forces with the retailer and added that through the scheme that every time cardholders shop they can save for convenient and quality car hire opportunities through Europcar.

The news comes just a month after Tesco announced that it would withdraw its presence from the used car sales sector, citing a lack of ample supply.
